Project Connect - First Poster

In this poster, while I have not used any specific colour scheme, every colour I have used has a meaning and a specific purpose. For example, I have used the colour blue several times on my poster because it is an instructional, mandatory colour. This means that, subliminally, the colour blue sends a message to our brain telling us that we need to listen to orders and do as we are instructed to do. It is also linked with calmness and relaxation, as studies have shown that the colour has a relaxing effect on our brains. Plus, according to research done by Wolfgang Von Goethe, published in his book "The Theory of Colours", he claimed blue was a common colour. This shows that it is a popular colour, and one used often right from the 17th century. He also said that the effect the colour blue has on the eyes is almost indescribable, as he said the colour contradicts itself by being both negative and positive. It promotes calmness, but also represents sadness and depression. Plus, research done by Joe Hallock in 2003 shows that blue is the favourite colour of people of all ages. Therefore, I believe using the colour blue in my poster will be beneficial and effective because not only are a wider audience likely to enjoy this colour and like it, but it will also subliminally instruct them to follow the five principles of project connect. This means that my poster is more likely to gain a positive reaction from anyone who reads it, and impose these ideas in their mind.
Also, I have used the colour pink as the colour behind my title because pink is a very welcoming colour. It also represents caring and nurturing, subliminally presenting the idea that following the five principles will help us to care for each other and be warm and friendly towards others.
Plus, I have used the colours green, yellow, purple, red and orange because they are the five colours included in the project connect logo.
I have used a design scheme called flat design. This means that my poster does not have any shadows or dimensions to it, and this particular type of design has been on trend for a while. I made it look flat because of the simplicity and the friendly way it looks. It's also eye grabbing and pleasing to look at.
The reason I decided to include lots of circular clouds and ovals was due to their positive connotations, round shapes promote and imply a sense of unity and community. By making people feel included when they look at my poster, I am making them want to pass on the positive feeling. Furthermore, an arrow pointing right subliminally gives a sense of direction, like following the policies of Project Connect will send them in the right direction in life. The two square strokes on the outside of my poster bring it all together, and give it a nice, simple border to finish the overall look.
The font I chose to use is a serif font which I downloaded from Dafont.com, and I chose to use this because it is very decorative and eye catching. Usually, using a serif font would appeal to an older audience, but I believe that it is appropriate for this poster because it stands out and demands attention. A lot of students might not bother to read the poster if the font is boring and basic.
