Print Adverts Research

example 1
The first print advert I chose to review was this Nivea advertisement. It is very simplistic, with virtually no information on it whatsoever, but it is also very clever in the way that it is set out. The dark blue colour is the trademark of the brand, and the colour they use on all their packaging. However, it is also a very similar colour to a dark night sky, which is clever in the sense that it makes the background appear as though it is the sky at night. Plus, with the placement of the moisturiser itself and the lid slightly askew, it creates the illusion of a crescent moon being in the night sky.

This design is very effective and unique, because it emphasises on the fact that the product being sold is a night cream, and therefore is intended to be used at night to improve the appearance of people's skin. The clever design differs from the other designs that other brands use, and this makes it stand out above competition.

The model used in this advertisement is the DAGMAR model. This is because people do not understand what the product is right away, until they look at the image more closely and realise that the moisturiser tub is supposed to create the shape of a crescent moon, and seeing that the advert is for Nivea's new night cream.

example 2

The second advert I chose was this Mr Kipling advert. It is simplistic, similarly to the Nivea advert. Plus, it represents springtime, which is when Mothers' Day takes place. By making the cake look like a flower, it appeals to mothers and reminds people to buy their mother a gift. This then subconsciously makes them want to buy cakes for their mothers, without even reading the rest of the poster.

The design is effective, because it clearly represents and captures their target audience, which is people buying Mothers Day gifts. The design is very unique, with cutlery, a cake tin and a cake being used to create the shape of a flower. This is clever, due to the fact that people normally buy their mothers flowers on mothers day. Plus, the tagline 'Mother's Day is better with cake' makes people think about buying them even more.

The model used in this advertisement is again the DAGMAR model. This is because it is not obvious what is being advertised without a closer look, or reading the tagline.
