Adding New Fonts and Typefaces
When typing on Photoshop, sometimes its difficult to find a suitable sensible or decorative font. It is possible to download your own fonts, and use those instead. The website I used for this is Dafont.com, where they have free fonts and typefaces available to download onto your computer and use on Photoshop.
As well as several plain and sensible fonts to use, there are decorative font styles to choose from. There are themes based on holidays and events, such as Halloween and Christmas. Plus, there are fonts that are themed after specific shows, movies, and cartoons. For example, I downloaded a font called 'Burton's Nightmare', which is the font that movie director Tim Burton uses in the vast majority of his iconic movies, such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and A Corpse Bride.
In order to add my new fonts to Photoshop, I downloaded the .zip files for free from Dafont onto my computer. I then selected each file individually, and unzipped them. After that, I went onto my desktop to open the programme 'Font Installer 2.0', and selected my font files one by one and added them to the font installer. I then had to save my work and close down Photoshop temporarily, so that the fonts would be added when I opened it again.
I also used font families whilst practising using the fonts I downloaded. For example, with the bigger decorative fonts I paired them with smaller, more classic and professional ones. With thicker serif fonts, I chose a thinner sans - serif typeface to pair it with. These compliment each other and create contrast, which is a good design technique.
